Baby Shark children's song is the most-watched YouTube video of all time as the catchy tune reaches 10 BILLION views

Baby Shark - the wildly infectious children's tune from Pinkfong - has danced its way to 10 billion views on Thursday.

The South Korea-produced song is a global viral sensation and the most-viewed YouTube video of all time, with Luis Fonsi’s Despacito, featuring Daddy Yankee, trailing behind in the second spot.

'We are delighted to announce that our beloved Baby Shark has recorded another remarkable milestone,' said Min-seok Kim, CEO of Baby Shark creator The Pinkfong Co., in a statement.

He went on to say, 'It has been a truly meaningful journey to witness how Baby Shark has connected people around the world, and we can’t wait to introduce Baby Shark’s further adventures that will bring unparalleled experiences to even more fans everywhere.' 

The colorful hit video with a catchy and addictive melody was released in June 2016, and went viral thanks to a dance challenge.

In November 2020, the video reached 7.04 billion views and became the most viewed YouTube video of all time, leaving Despacito in the second spot.

Celebrities have also jumped on the Baby Shark wagon, with John Legend and daughter Luna performing the catching tune in 2019. Meanwhile Celine Dion performed the song on the James Corden Carpool Karaoke show that same year.  

The Washington Nationals baseball team also took it up as an anthem and went on to win the World Series, prompting the White House to play the tune during the celebrations. 

Due to the song's popularity, Nickelodeon announced that it is developing a feature film around Baby Shark.

The second most-viewed YouTube video is Luis Fonsi’s Despacito, sitting quite far away from the Korean tune with 7.7 billion views.

Meanwhile Ed Sheeran's pop and dancehall inspired catchy tune Shape of You - which he wrote with Rihanna in mind - finds itself in fourth place with 5.58 billion views. 

American rapper Wiz Khalifa's soundtrack tune for Furious 7 movie - which serves as tribute song to the late actor Paul Walker who died in a single-vehicle accident on November 30, 2013 - See You Again, is in fifth place with 5.38 billion views.
