1. Avoid drinking coffee (or tea!) on an empty stomach. Many of my patients think drinking tea means they are consuming less caffeine, but tea contains almost as much as coffee. Always have your morning tea or coffee with some protein.

2. Swap energy drinks for vitamin B complex. This is a potent supplement so always make sure you take it with a meal, but it will give you a better energy boost than an energy drink and without the caffeine ‘crash'. 

3. Aim to eat every 3-4 hours and never wait until you feel starving, as this indicates your blood sugar has dropped too low. When you feel peckish, that's the best time to eat, even if that's a healthy balanced snack.

4. Snack throughout the day. This doesn't mean snacking on biscuits; it means having a protein focused snack to bridge between meals to keep your blood sugar levels steady. Some of my favourite snacks include; hard boiled eggs, cold meats, nuts and seeds or a protein bar. 

5. Prioritise exercise every day, even if that's just a walk on your lunch break! We release endorphins, serotonin, and dopamine hormones when we exercise which gives us a boost. Gabriela says: 'This recipe works brilliantly as a shared brunch, is particularly good for any lurking hangovers, as smoked salmon is one of the best sources of omega-3 and will help the liver to cleanse the body of the remnants of last night's revelry. 

'As for tomato and basil, it's one of my all-time favourite combinations. 

'Fresh, clean, and so easy, this dish practically makes itself.'

Serves 2

267 calories per portion.

Ingredients:

Smoked salmon is one of the best sources of omega-3 and will help the liver to cleanse the body!
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • a large handful of spinach, chopped
  • 80g smoked salmon
  • 100g cherry tomatoes, chopped
  • a small handful of basil
  • 4 large organic/free range eggs
  • sea salt and freshly ground black pepper

Method 

Preheat the oven to 220'/gas mark 7. Lightly grease 2 small ovenproof dishes with the oil.

Line one with the spinach and smoked salmon. Line the other with the tomatoes and basil. Crack two eggs over each filling and season. Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the whites have set and the yolks are still oozy.

Serve as they are or with fresh sourdough bread for a weekend treat!
